TORONTO – Telus is the first non-Bell TV service provider to offer that company’s new video streaming service currently code-named “Project Latte”.
In a release on Wednesday, Bell Media said that it has reached distribution deals to deliver its new SVOD service to Telus Optik TV, Bell Fibe TV, and Bell Aliant FibreOp TV set-top boxes, as well as via mobile apps, the web, game consoles, and smart TVs. Designed to complement traditional television, the service is available to every TV provider in the country.
As Cartt.ca reported last week, Project Latte pledges to deliver more than 10,000 hours of non-kids TV programming, including some 350 unique TV titles and HBO’s entire off-air library, at its still unconfirmed launch date.
“With the first of Canada’s major television providers signed on, representing approximately 3.5 million customers across the country, we are well on our way to delivering on our objective of serving every TV subscriber in Canada with Project Latte,” said Bell Media president Kevin Crull, in the news release. “We look forward to announcing even more partners as we move closer to the launch of what is to become Canada’s premium streaming service.”
“Project Latte will offer Telus Optik TV customers expanded, compelling content choices directly from their set-top box,” added Telus’ president of consumer and small business solutions, David Fuller. “The service complements our existing TV and movie offerings by adding thousands of hours of premium on-demand content across multiple screens. We are very excited to be one of the first distributors of this strong new service.”
Additional details about Project Latte – including its final name – will be announced in the weeks to come.
