TORONTO – Are you addicted to the Internet?  Has our world been remade by a desire to ‘share’ almost everything?  Two new digitally-focused documentary projects on TVO just may help answer those questions.

According to the public broadcaster, Avatar Secrets and Life After Digital are curated to explore the juxtaposing views of life in the digital age – exploring both its dark corners and positive consequences to the way technology enables us to grow and connect.

Avatar Secrets, designed for the iPad and available now in the Apple App store, is an immersive, interactive ‘appumentary’ that explores the allure of the virtual world as a new frontier for creating empathetic connections, community and self-discovery. It re-examines the documentary form, integrating digitally-enriched hot spots in each chapter that lead to expert interviews and supplementary content.

Television documentary Life After Digital is an in-depth exploration of the impact of digital technology on the way we experience our lives in the post-digital era.  It will air on October 19 at 11:00 PM ET, October 20 at 10:00 PM ET and October 23 at 12:00 midnight ET and will be available online following the broadcast.

More information about both docs is available here.

In other TVO news, Peter O'Brian has been reappointed to serve as chair of the TVO Board of Directors for a two-year term (November 2014 – October 2016.) An award-winning filmmaker, O'Brian has served as chair since 2005.

"I'm incredibly proud of what TVO has accomplished," said O'Brian, in the announcement.  "I have served as Chair over the past nine years, and during that time TVO has transformed into the innovative media organization it is known for today. As a leader in digital education, current affairs and documentaries, the future is incredibly exciting and TVO's best years lie ahead."

Members of the TVO Board of Directors, including the chair, are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
