DENVER – The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) handed out its annual awards amidst record attendance and an increase in exhibitors at this week’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver.

Member of the Year Award went to Bob Acheson, sales and marketing professional with San Bruno Cable TV in Sunnyvale, Calif; the Women in Technology Award was given to Sherita Ceasar, vice president, national video deployment engineering with Comcast Cable; the SCTE Chairman’s Award was presented to Mike LaJoie, CTO with Time Warner Cable; and Brian James received the SCTE Excellence in Standards Award this year.

SCTE also inducted three esteemed individuals into the SCTE Hall of Fame: J. Richard “Dick” Beard, director of global engineering with Ervin Cable; John T. Kurpinski Sr., vice president of Tarpon Communications Inc.; and Leslie W. Read, owner, Read Broadband Services.

A 22% increase in new exhibitors drove the total number of exhibitors to 376, while total attendance was approximately 9,100.  Both the exhibitor and attendance totals represent increases over those registered in 2009, when Denver last played host to the event.

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2015 will take place October 13-16 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.  Balan Nair, executive vice president and CTO of Liberty Global, will serve as program committee chairman for the 2015 event.
