Telesat taps new VP international sales, named global satellite operator of the year

OTTAWA – Telesat has named Tom Eaton as its new vice president of international sales.

The global satellite operatoralso announced that Nigel Gibson, who has served as the company’s vice president of international sales operating out of its London, UK office since 2009, has chosen to leave the company following a transition of his responsibilities to Eaton. These changes follow the company’s decision to relocate the vice president, international sales position from Europe to the Americas.

Based in Washington, D.C., Eaton will report to president and CEO Dan Goldberg, and also will serve on the executive committee of the company.  Formerly the president of Harris CapRock Communications and president of CapRock Government Solutions as well as COO of CapRock Communications, Eaton was also PanAmSat’s EVP, global sales and marketing, and their president of G2 Satellite Solutions.  Prior to PanAmSat, he was the vice president of global sales and customer support at Intelsat.

“I am very pleased that Tom has joined the company”, said Goldberg, in the announcement.  “Tom is an experienced senior executive and has been active in the satellite and telecommunications industries for over 30 years. I look forward to working with him to support and expand our international customer base.”

In other company news, Telesat was again recognized by Euroconsult, the preeminent analyst and research group in satellite communications, as Global Satellite Operator of the Year.  The award, which evaluates both mobile and fixed satellite providers, was announced Thursday at the World Satellite Business Week conference in Paris.
