TORONTO – Even more Hollywood stars have pledged to take part in the Canadian-inclusive Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) special this Friday, which will air simultaneously across all four of Canada's major English-language network broadcasters.
CBC, City, CTV and Global, along with AMI, CHCH, CHEK, Fight Network, Gusto TV, Hollywood Suite, and TLN will join ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and dozens of U.S. cable channels simultaneously airing a star-studded special from Hollywood, and for the first time, Toronto. The live, one-hour fundraising event, which draws on the entertainment community to rally the public around ending cancer's reign as a leading cause of death, will air commercial-free on Friday, September 5 at 8:00 PM ET/PT and 7:00 PM CT. The show will also stream live on Yahoo Canada.
Instead of the traditional phone bank staffed by celebrities, the telecast will feature a "digital lounge" on the set, hosted by Yahoo News Global Anchor Katie Couric. Stars in the digital lounge will reach out to viewers via phone, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms through a new campaign called "We're Calling You" that SU2C's supporters can sign up for here.
All funds received from the Canadian general public during the broadcast will be directed towards the creation of collaborative research teams, as well as education and awareness programs conducted in Canada.
