THUNDER BAY, ON – Tbaytel has teamed up with Ericsson to launch Northern Ontario's first Ericsson Capsule Site, a radio base station designed to increase network coverage and capacity for this week’s PGA Tour Canada golf tournament.

The PGA Tour Canada's Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel takes place July 14 – 20 at Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay.  Ericsson's Capsule Site is an all-inclusive site solution that allows Tbaytel to provide extra coverage to ensure that enhanced wireless coverage is available anywhere at Whitewater Golf Club, and that it can meet the growing demand for mobile voice and broadband services during and after the event.

The Capsule Site has a composite cover that completely encloses all equipment, including antennas and microwave transmission units, allowing for faster installation and a 30% reduction in costs.  With the ability to be located anywhere with a footprint around 2 m² ground spaces and 12.5m height availability, the area required is less than 50% of a standard site.

In addition, the Capsule Site's innovative technology and design enables a carrier to customize the appearance of the structure, creating either an eye-catching branding opportunity or blend it into the background of a residential area.

"Tbaytel is committed to ensuring that our customers receive the most extensive and reliable wireless mobility coverage available in Northern Ontario," said Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh, in the news release.  "The addition of the new Capsule Site at Whitewater Golf Club is a demonstration of how Tbaytel continues to be an innovative leader in bringing reliable coverage to more areas in our neighbourhood."

"Ericsson is looking forward to showcasing the unique design and innovative technology of the Capsule Site alongside Tbaytel in Thunder Bay," added Ericsson Canada president Mark Henderson.  "The new site solution is cost effective, providing the operator with new possibilities while expanding on its pre-existing network to enhance mobile voice and broadband services in the area for its customers."
