OTTAWA – Canadians’ love of their smartphones and tablets continues unabated, with some 67% of Anglophones now reporting that they have smartphones, and 45% have tablets, according to the Media Technology Monitor (MTM).
The Spring 2014 Adoption Report is a summary of penetration trends of audio and video technologies delivered over traditional, Internet and mobile platforms. The technologies are presented in relation to the different stages of technology adoption, starting with the ‘innovation’ stage and ending with the ‘decline’ stage.
Highlights from that report include:
– The mobile audio market is growing, with nearly a quarter of Anglophone Canadians streaming audio from their cell phones;
– Netflix continues to grow its market share – one-third of Anglophones now subscribe;
– While few Canadians watch TV online exclusively, 45% of Anglophones watch some TV online, and;
– The penetration of Telco TV service is still growing strong – at 20%, Telco TV now has a comparable share to that of Satellite TV.
The report is now available to subscribers on the MTM website.
MTM also released a free version of its Top 5 Sneak Peek Report, that, as the name suggests, highlights five of the newest and most interesting findings from the Spring 2014 data. Those topics include online video calling, game consoles, 4-screen Internet access, Android smartphones and Netflix.
