TORONTO – CBC has partnered with Wheelchair Basketball Canada to provide live streaming coverage of the upcoming 2014 Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championship at CBCSports.ca from June 20-28.

CBC’s website will carry each of the 44 games from the tournament including all of Team Canada’s games.  Team Canada has never finished out of the top three at this event and will be aiming for a record seventh consecutive podium finish this year.  The Canadian women’s national team will also represent Canada at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games and the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

“The Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championship is another example of our commitment to showcasing amateur athletics and connecting Canadians with incredible stories and world-class events like these in the lead up to the PanAm and Parapan Am Games as well as the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics”, said Jeffrey Orridge, executive director, CBC sports properties and general manager, Olympics on CBC, in the news release.

This year’s International Wheelchair Basketball Federation tournament is hosted by Wheelchair Basketball Canada at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre and will be the largest event of its kind with 12 competing countries representing three international zones. This year’s event also represents the first time in 20 years that the women’s competition will be held separately from the men’s.
