TORONTO – Rogers Communications executive vice-president, regulatory and vice-chairman Phil Lind has let it be known inside Rogers that this will be his last year in an operations role at the company for which he has worked for 45 years.
Lind has had a storied career with Rogers, working together with founder Ted Rogers until the latter’s death in 2008 (Lind is pictured here with Shaw Communications president Peter Bissonnette, left and Astral Media co-founder Ian Greenberg, right, upon his induction into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2012). He was seen as the man who got things done under the legendary founder – or one of the few able to tell Ted “no” when one of his ideas went too far.
Lind was also unafraid to speak his mind and defend his company’s interests, as we at Cartt.ca know well.
The company has not made an official public announcement yet, but it’s clear Lind is not leaving just yet. “Phil is retiring from his management responsibilities at the end of the year,” CEO Guy Laurence told the media after the release of the company’s Q1 results. “He will continue to stay with the company as an advisor and on the board. We will seek to replace him although he’s been with the company for 45 years so it’s a tall order… he’s provided a huge amount of value to us over the years.”
“He’s not disappearing or anything so we will take our time to find the right candidate,” added Laurence.
We’ll have more on this story later.
