OTTAWA – Corus Radio officially killed off The Bear on Monday, replacing Ottawa’s FM 106.9 with a new contemporary hit radio station known as JUMP! 106.9.
Corus agreed to buy CKQB-FM 106.9 and CJOT-FM (Boom 99.7) from Bell Media last year as part of the divestitures required as conditions of Bell Media’s purchase of Astral Media. That deal received CRTC approval earlier this year.
According to Corus’ press release, JUMP! 106.9 will be unique in the market with a core playlist of the biggest names in music, including Katy Perry, Pitbull, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars. Spinning a mix of top 40 artists delivered in 90 minute non-stop blocks, programming will also include a dose of pop culture and celebrity gossip wrapped around punchy banter in a truly on-air and online immersive experience.
As part of the station’s launch, an extensive marketing, advertising and social media campaign reflective of the fun, young and vibrant JUMP! 106.9 brand is rolling out in Ottawa proper and surrounding areas. Jumpradio.ca, the station’s website, is a fully-mobile responsive, pop music-focused hub that will merge social and real-time content to the station’s social feeds. The station’s App platform is a real-time hang out for the JUMP! audience that allows listeners to connect with the radio personalities as well as other fans of the station.
“JUMP! 106.9 is a unique, innovative and upbeat on-air and online listening experience that is new to our city and our audiences,” said Corus Radio Ottawa GM, Mark Dickie, in the release. “JUMP! 106.9 will capture the spirit and lifestyle of the social media savvy modern pop consumer.”
