REGINA – SaskTel, Prairie Mobile Communications and Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) Resource Development are partnering on the launch of Red Eagle Cellular, a new authorized SaskTel cellular dealer for First Nations in Saskatchewan.

A joint venture amongst the three organizations, Red Eagle Cellular will open a location at the Grasswoods PetroCanada in Saskatoon in early April (proposed storefront pictured).  SaskTel, Prairie Mobile and MLTC have pledged to continue to work together to expand to other dealer locations on both First Nations urban reserves and select northern reserves.

Prairie Mobile is SaskTel’s biggest privately owned wireless communications retailer in Saskatchewan.  Meadow Lake Tribal Council is one of Saskatchewan’s largest private equity investment managers, returning tens of millions in dividends to shareholder First Nations to assist with economic development, social programs, employment and infrastructure in nine northern First Nations communities. In 2009, the Council created Meadow Lake Tribal Council Resource Development (RDI) with the mandate to pursue business initiatives and improve the wealth of shareholder communities.  Red Eagle Cellular will be the ninth subsidiary company in RDI’s portfolio.

“SaskTel has a large network of authorized dealers across Saskatchewan and we are pleased to extend our reach to First Nations communities,” said SaskTel president and CEO Ron Styles, in the announcement.  “Red Eagle Cellular will be owned and operated by First Nations people at the Grasswoods PetroCanada, and we will evaluate expansion to additional locations so we can continue to best serve our First Nations customers.”
