HALIFAX – As Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island await the introduction of 10-digit local dialing this August, the Telecommunications Alliance has launched a communications campaign in preparation for the change in local calling.
The campaign includes print and web advertisements, notifications to business and consumer associations, and a website (www.dial10.ca) that provides tips on how to prepare for the new dialing procedures.
"10-digit local dialing is new to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and impacts all residents and businesses”, said Glen Brown, spokesperson for the Canadian Numbering Administrator, in the announcement. “It is important that consumers and businesses start reprogramming their communications equipment prior to August 23, 2014 in order to avoid any inconveniences that may be caused by the changes. The goal of our communications efforts is to ensure that everyone is prepared ahead of time.”
The 10-digit dialing method will also allow for the introduction of the new area code 782 that will be rolled out in November. It will coexist with and cover the same geographic area as the current 902 area code, and will only be assigned to customers when the existing inventory of 902 numbers is depleted.
