OTTAWA – The Community Radio Fund of Canada will hand out more than $230,000 to 27 campus and community radio broadcasters this year.
The Ottawa-based organization said that it will disperse $234,578 through its Radio Talent Development Program and the Youth Internship Program, bringing the total amount of funds distributed since the CRFC was founded in 2007 to more than $2.9 million. The goal of both programs is to develop innovative local interest programming while providing mentorship, education, and training for broadcasters.
The programs are made possible by Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions from Astral Media Radio (now Bell Media), totalling $1.4 Million over seven years.
"We are extremely happy with the liveliness of the financed initiatives," said CRFC president, Jean-François Côté, in the announcement. "And with the incredible diversity of projects we have funded, with programming geared towards a wide range of communities, developing local voices, and reflecting the lives of many Canadians, the CRFC is inspired to move forward in its ultimate goal that everyone in Canada can participate in and listen to strong local stations, ensuring a diversity of voices in the broadcasting system where people use community radio to directly contribute to their local culture and economic development.”
