Rogers Media cuts 94 positions

TORONTO – Rogers Media today announced it has eliminated 94 positions across the publishing, TV and radio company.

That number represents 2% of the total employees which work at the company’s media division and cuts came from all regions and divisions, except for the Sports Entertainment Group, which comprises the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre. This move follows the May announcement where the Media division cut 62 jobs when it shuttered the CityNews channel and diminished production done for the Omni station in Alberta

It is thought that the soft ad market for print products (and that digital advertising is not growing at a pace to replace that lost revenue), as well as with radio and broadcast television, is at the root of today’s cutbacks.

Divisonal president Keith Pelley issued a statement saying: “We are evolving our business model to adapt to the changing media industry, with a strong focus and investment on our priority brands and strategic growth initiatives. Today’s changes are never easy, but are necessary to position us for continued success.”
