
TORONTO – The United Nations Association in Canada paid tribute to Rogers Communications president and CEO Nadir Mohamed last week at a gala event at the Liberty Grand in Toronto.
Hosted by Ed Clark, group president and CEO of TD Bank Group, UNA-Canada’s 2013 Global Citizens Dinner honoured Mohamed for his commitment to giving back to the community and to developing the next generation of Canadian talent, both personally and through Rogers Communications, said the UNA.
“Under the leadership of Nadir Mohamed, Rogers Communications has increased its corporate commitment to community investment with the creation of the Rogers Youth Fund and other community investment initiatives that are helping Canadian youth secure a brighter future through education,” says the UNA-Canada. Mohamed was also lauded for his work with and donations to The Next 36, an entrepreneurial mentorship program.
He “has innovated and enhanced the community citizenship that has been a hallmark of Rogers Communications,” said Kathryn White, president &and CEO of UNA-Canada. “He has truly demonstrated that, when embodied in the right role model, inclusion and innovation can be profitable both financially and in fostering communities inspired by opportunity, hope and a shared determination to meet the challenges of our complex world.”
In his speech to the dinner, Mohamed (pictured with his wife Shabin), whose family immigrated to Canada from Tanzania in 1971, declared education as key to his and others’ success and he feels there is “no greater calling than the calling of service.” He called on business and political leaders to be engaged with the challenges their constituencies face, noting that we’re moving beyond a world of one or two superpowers and that “Collaboration among nations will be critical.
