TORONTO – The Smithsonian Channel will launch in Canada in November 13, Blue Ant Media announced Monday.
The commercial-free specialty service, a rebrand of EQHD, will be available on a two month free preview following its launch. Smithsonian Channel will feature programming drawn from the world’s leading cultural institution, including air and space, science and nature, pop culture and history.
“Canadians will now have a front row seat to watch exclusive, entertaining and compelling programming from Smithsonian Channel,” said Vanessa Case, EVP programming and production, in the announcement. “Smithsonian is a highly respected, globally recognized cultural institution with award-winning programming, we know the channel will be incredibly engaging and fascinating to our Canadian audience.”
To build awareness prior to the channel’s launch, Blue Ant will offer The Incredible Bionic Man online at beginning October 30. The special examines the world's first bionic man – a talking, breathing, walking man, made of the best prosthetic body parts and robotic technology available.
