KELOWNA and EDMONTON – ROM Communications Inc., a North American reseller and hardware developer for satellite, cellular and wireless IP Networks, announced it has received commercial certification of its proprietary new Text Anywhere device from Iridium Satellite LLC.
Text Anywhere is a personal two-way message device that uses the Iridium Satellite Network for global coverage. Connected by Wi-Fi to an iPhone, iTouch, iPad, MacBook or compatible Windows based laptop, the built-in application eliminates the need for special apps or hardware.
Text Anywhere can receive a text message from a cellular phone anywhere in Canada or the U.S. to anywhere in the world at the same flat rate with no international charges. It retails for $399 and is currently available only at www.textanywhere.ca. ROM has implemented a global flat rate service of $29.99/month for 100 messages and $0.27 for each additional message.
“Eight percent of the world is covered by cellular service. With an estimated 8 billion text messages being sent and received each day, texting has become the most used form of communication in the world. ROM’s business case is based on facilitating text based communication in the 92% of the world not covered by cellular service,” Neil Magrath, president of ROM Communications, in a release.
Magrath said initial marketing for Text Anywhere will focus on the commercial and recreational boating, energy and resource activities, and travel markets.
ROM Communications Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Total Telcom Inc.
