Lessons from Super Storm Sandy on the menu at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

EXTON, PA – Time Warner Cable’s Brian Allen will share lessons learned from Super Storm Sandy when the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) hosts its annual luncheon on October 22 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Atlanta, Georgia.

Allen, who is responsible for Time Warner Cable’s crisis management and business continuity programs, will discuss the storm’s impact on key operational needs, including communications, fuel, power and transportation.  His presentation will also include lessons learned from Time Warner Cable’s post-mortem process and steps that are being taken to prepare for future crises; how the growth of new cable services is creating a need for new approaches to business continuity and crisis management; and how cable engineering and operations professionals can drive better levels of preparation across the industry.

“While we’d like to think of Sandy as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the reality is that we can expect to be faced with similar challenges again,” said Allen.  “By documenting our efforts, we expect to improve our ability to maintain and quickly restore essential services when natural or man-made events threaten our networks in the future.”

Prior to Allen’s remarks, SCTE will present the Member of the Year and Women in Technology awards and will recognize members who are being inducted into the SCTE Hall of Fame.

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 is scheduled for October 21 – 24 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
