Move over Halo, here comes Karaoke on the Xbox 360

MONTREAL – Put down that controller and pick up the microphone, Karaoke for Xbox 360 is here with more than 8,000 songs from the latest hits to the oldies but goodies. The title from Microsoft Studios, Stingray Music USA Inc., and iNiS Corporation is available now on the Xbox Live Marketplace Apps. And even more TV shows and movies are coming to Microsoft’s videogame console.

The game makes extensive use of avatars so you can go on stage and sing with a full complement of stage props and back band. It also supports Xbox SmartGlass so players will be able to queue up songs via a supported tablet or smartphone while others are singing. Songs don't require any download and will playback immediately via streaming.

Users can try out the daily five free songs or purchase a Karaoke Pass to sing all songs available. Karaoke passes are available for purchase using Microsoft Points. An Xbox 360 Headset, or Xbox Wireless Microphone, or Xbox 360 compatible USB microphone is required.

In addition to Karoake, Microsoft announced it is bringing more than 40 entertainment apps to the Xbox Live platform over the next few months. Among the other nine launching today are Vevo, Maxim, Napster, CNET, while VOD service CinemaNow is expanding its service to Canada. The CW, MTV, Machinima, PBS, Vimeo, and Warner Bros.' Flixster are scehduled to follow.
