Telus continues investing in western Canada: $1 billion in B.C., $17 million more in Manitoba
VANCOUVER – Following its announcement Monday of a $700 million investment to upgrade its network in Alberta, Telus is continuing with its push into western Canada today with further investments of $1 billion in infrastructure and facilities in B.C. and $17 million to expand its 4G LTE network in Manitoba.
The $1 billion B.C. infrastructure investment is part of a three-year, $3 billion commitment made a year ago, and builds upon the $29 billion the Telus has already invested in operations and technology throughout the province since 2000. The company also said Wednesday that one third of the money to be spent, $300 million, will go into Vancouver.
This year’s investment will enable Telus to focus on connecting new B.C. homes and businesses directly to its gigabit passive optical network (GPON), open a new internet data centre in Kamloops, expand its healthcare solutions business, install new wireless sites to enhance coverage, expand its 4G LTE network, and to continue to build its new Telus Garden office complex in downtown Vancouver.
The telco will spend $17 million in Manitoba this year to expand its 4G LTE network in that province, bringing its total investment to $380 million in that province since 2000.
