WINNIPEG – APTN announced today that its exclusive four-hour broadcast of this year’s Aboriginal Day Live event will be broadcast on partner radio stations and networks in Alberta, Manitoba, Northern B.C. Yukon and Mackenzie Delta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
On Saturday, June 22, APTN will host Canada’s largest celebration of National Aboriginal Day at The Forks in Winnipeg and the Arctic Winter Games Arena in Iqaluit. Canadians will be able to watch a live broadcast of the event on TV, online, or on mobile devices, and will also be able to tune into via radio.
Aboriginal Day Live will air June 22 at 7:30 p.m. CT (6:30 MT; 9:00 p.m. ET) on the following partner radio stations:
- Alberta: CFWE (various call numbers) province-wide; Hawk Radio 89.1 FM in Hobbema, home to Samson Cree Nation.
- Manitoba: NCI 105.5 FM province-wide; STREETZ 104.7 FM in Winnipeg.
- Northern British Columbia, Yukon and Mackenzie Delta: CHON 98.1 FM in Whitehorse; CHON 90.5 in other communities.
- Ontario: Available on the Wawatay Radio Network which serves much of Northwestern Ontario including the Nishnawbe Aski Nation and Treaty 3 area.
- Saskatchewan: Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation (various call numbers) Available in communities throughout North, Central and parts of Southern Saskatchewan on the Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) network.
Hosts for the Winnipeg concert include Michelle Thrush, star of the APTN series Blackstone and Derek Miller, Juno Award-winning Mohawk rocker. Don Kelly, star of the APTN series Fish Out of Water will host the main stage performance in Iqaluit, alongside co-host Madeleine Allakariallak and backstage hosts will be Qanurli? stars Thomas Anguti Johnston and Vinnie Karetak.
Now in its seventh year, Aboriginal Day Live 2013 artists performing at the Winnipeg main stage include: A Tribe Called Red; Crystal Shawanda; Dallas Arcand; George Leach; Kathia Rock; Sagkeeng's Finest; War Party, and Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq.
Iqaluit main stage artists include Artcirq; Leela Gilday; Nelson Tagoona; Saali; Saina Singer; and Sinuupa. Also performing a special set is Susan Aglukark, one of Canada’s most unique artists.
