BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF – Netflix announced today it will debut another new original series this fall called Derek, a dramedy written, directed and executive-produced by British comic Ricky Gervais.
Netflix members will have access to all seven 30-minute episodes of the series created by the Emmy and Golden Globe winning Gervais will be available on Sept. 12 at 12:01 a.m. PT. The only exception will be Netflix’s UK members, because the series premiered there on Channel 4 and was recently renewed for a second season.
A bittersweet comedy-drama about a group of outsiders living on society’s margins, Derek centres around Derek Noakes (Gervais), who works at a retirement home. Derek cares deeply for the home's residents, who tell him stories of what life used to be like. Working alongside Derek is Dougie (played by Karl Pilkington), his landlord, Kev (David Earl), a loveable train wreck, and Hannah (Kerry Godliman), a care worker in the home and Derek’s best friend.
