CMPA, DGC settle on new production agreement

TORONTO – The Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) announced today it has reached an agreement in principle with the district councils of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) on a new 2013-2015 independent production agreement.

“This was a tough negotiation but we are very happy we were able to reach an agreement that recognizes the needs of Canadian producers, yet fairly compensates DGC members across the country,” said Reynolds Mastin, chief negotiator and chief legal officer of the CMPA in a release. “I am very pleased that we were able to reach an agreement that reflects our members’ priorities and provides stability to the industry,” said Bill Skolnik, DGC Ontario CEO.

Details of the deal will be released once the agreement is ratified.

The CMPA is a national non-profit organization that represents the interests of over 350 leading screen-based media companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films and digital media content in all regions of Canada.

The DGC is a national labour organization that represents over 3,800 key creative and logistical personnel in the screen based industry covering all areas of direction, design, production and editing.
