Netflix CEO Hastings to be keynote speaker at Canada 3.0


TORONTO – The Canadian Digital Media Network has announced the addition of Reed Hastings, founder and CEO of Netflix, as keynote speaker for its upcoming CDMN Canada 3.0 2013 conference.

Hastings’ keynote session is called “Internet TV: The Future of Television.” The conference takes place May 14-15, 2013 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Other confirmed CDMN Canada 3.0 2013 speakers include:

  • Jason Townsend, NASA’s deputy social media manager (who will be appearing via telepresence)
  • Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of Datawind (a Canadian company that are makers of the low-cost Aakash 2 tablet that has potential to revolutionize the developing world’s education system)
  • Chris Anderson, best-selling author and former editor-in-chief of Wired magazine
  • Jane McGonigal, game designer, futurist and best-selling author
  • Lane Merrifield, co-founder of Club Penguin

The conference will feature world-class speakers talking about issues from entrepreneurship to talent, attracting investment to gamification, and celebrate Canadian achievements in the commercialization of information and communications technology (ICT) and mobile to prospects, partners and funders from Canada as well as international markets. Emcee Amber Mac will run the show and guide attendees through a variety of featured sessions.

CDMN Canada 3.0 2013 will be co-located with the GRAND 2013 conference which focuses on the graphics, animation and new media industry. Canada 3.0 delegates will also have access to GRAND’s AGM keynote speakers, CBC broadcasters Terry O’Reilly and Jian Ghomeshi. 

The first-ever CDMN Moonshot Awards, which recognize excellence in the use of ICT and mobile technologies for business success, will also be presented during the conference May 14. The awards judging panel includes: Kevin Newman, CTV correspondent; Sid Paquette, director at OMERS Ventures; Terry Stuart, Deloitte Canada’s chief innovation officer; April Dunford, managing director and founder of RocketScope; and CDMN managing director, Dr. Kevin Tuer.
