One screen to rule them all: TV still rules news/sports – MTM study

OTTAWA – MTM’s News Enthusiasts and Sports Enthusiasts reports have just been released and the highlights include:

News Enthusiasts

•            Both Anglophone and Francophone Canadians are avid news users with nine in ten (88% and 93% respectively) accessing some type of news content on a weekly basis.

•            One-third of Anglophones and one quarter of Francophones are considered “News Enthusiasts” accessing all types of news on a daily basis.

•            News Enthusiasts still consume much of their news on the largest screen, the TV.  However, the Internet is growing in popularity as a news source, including using the Internet on portable devices.

Sport Enthusiasts

•            Only half of Anglophones and Francophones are accessing an array of sports content on a weekly basis.

•            One quarter (24% and 23% respectively) are considered “Sports Enthusiasts” consuming daily sports content from any medium.

•            Among Sports Enthusiasts, the TV set is the dominant screen, and they’re more likely to have all the auxiliary components to enhance their experience (PVRs and HDTV receivers).
