Videotron’s Porretta named Research and Innovation Ambassador

MONTRÉAL – Videotron’s Pierre Roy Porretta, Vice-President, Engineering, Research & Development, has been named Research and Innovation Ambassador at the second Gala des Ambassadeurs ÉTS. The event recognizes the professional and personal achievements of École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) alumni.

Porretta has been working in telecommunications for more than 17 years. After joining Videotron, he was involved in a number of major projects. First, he worked on tech development for the roll-out of Videotron’s Internet service for residential and business customers. A few years later, he headed the team that established the foundations of Videotron’s current IP network architecture, which has supported the development of a series of IP-based services.

“I am particularly moved by this recognition by my peers,” said Porretta after learning of the honour. “My years of study at ÉTS gave me a solid grounding that has served me well throughout my career.”

“Pierre has played a key role in the innovations that have made it possible for Videotron to provide the best possible customer experience,” said Daniel Proulx, Chief Information Officer. “He is a model for the new generation of telecommunications engineers. Every day, he devotes himself to the search for the best solutions that enable Videotron to differentiate itself and anticipate its customers’ needs. We are proud that his talents have been recognized by the Gala des Ambassadeurs ÉTS 2012 and we congratulate him.”

Since his appointment as Vice-President, Engineering, Research & Development in 2010, Porretta has brought his passion for all things technological to his new duties, in which he has overall responsibility for technological development for Videotron’s convergent services, including wireline and mobile telephone service, multiplatform video services and all Internet services.
