TORONTO – The Writers Guild of Canada has announced that Christine Rutherford is stepping into the newly created role of Director, Strategy and Outreach, effective today. In the new role, Rutherford will be responsible for developing strategy to strengthen the WGC’s collective bargaining activities, including outreach to and engagement of membership across the regions. She will report directly to the Executive Director.
WGC Executive Director Maureen Parker noted that “Christine is a consensus builder, and she brings to the new role an exceptional knowledge of our collective agreements and the industry they serve. By dedicating someone of her skills and experience to this role, the WGC makes an enhanced commitment to collective bargaining.”
Rutherford has been with the WGC for close to 15 years, most recently in the role of Manager of Agreement Administration. She was actively involved in negotiations toward the new Writers Independent Production Agreement, and has represented the WGC at a variety of industry panels and events.
Taking over for Rutherford as Manager of Agreement Administration is the WGC’s Jasmine Spei. A lawyer by training, Spei has proven a terrific asset to the WGC in her 4 years in the Industrial Relations Department. She was most recently responsible for the administration of screenwriter contracts in series TV.
