ATN to broadcast Canadian series The Legend of Ponnivala

TORONTO – Asian Television Network International announced today it has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights for a Canadian Animated production called The Legend of Ponnivala from The Sophia Hilton Foundation of Canada and Soft Science Associates, Ltd.

Based on a story from the Indian subcontinent, The Legend of Ponnivala is a 26-part animated series that tells the story of Indian heroes Ponnar and Shankar. It draws inspiration and characters from an Indian epic, the Mahabharata, while keeping its focus on farming, the lifestyle central to its place of origin.

ATN President and CEO Dr. Shan Chandrasekar calls the production first of its kind in Canadian animation. “We have always supported, promoted and carried innovative independent Canadian productions on our channels and plan to continue doing so with even more vigour and resources,” Dr. Chandrasekar said in a release.

The series will air on ATN’s HD, Jaya TV and CBN channels in English and will also be dubbed in Tamil language for ATN’s Tamil language channel ATN Jaya TV at a later date.

The company says future plans include assisting Canadian independent producers in exporting their product internationally.
