EXTON, PA – IT solutions and advanced broadband network strategies are in the spotlight among the nearly two dozen workshop sessions scheduled for this year’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo conference.
Workshops on “Big Data,” cloud-based architectures and services, and IPv6, each featuring multiple presentations by subject matter experts, are just some of the sessions that are scheduled during the four-day conference, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced Wednesday.
The workshops and two pre-conference symposia– “DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering” and “Creating the Cable Generalist” – will take place October 21 to 24 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
The SCTE says the workshop agenda, which has been designed to address areas that can drive current and future growth for the industry, will focus on four key areas for cable engineering and IT professionals: the physical layer, IP networking, quality assurance, and advanced services. The agenda has been programmed by a committee chaired by Kevin Hart, executive vice president and CTO, Cox Communications.
Among the IT issues that will be discussed in the Expo workshops are: strategies for ingesting and interpreting the massive volumes of data flowing through cable network systems; the challenges and opportunities of cloud-based storage and playback; and best practices for the deployment of IPv6.
In addition, the Expo workshops will address such topics as:
- The evolution and optimization of existing broadband networks, including DOCSIS 3.1, EPON over Coax (EPoC) and other technologies;
- Techniques for proactively monitoring today’s networks, as well as monitoring of DOCSIS 3.1 OFDM signals and other new methods for determining network performance and predicting service disruptions;
- Identifying and implementing engineering approaches for monetizing TV Everywhere and expediting migrations to 4K UHD and HEVC; and
- STB energy conservation, outside plant management and network monitoring as components of a comprehensive energy approach for the industry.
