ST. JOHN'S – Kids Help Phone and Bell Let's Talk are visiting a select number of schools in Canada and on Feb. 11 will be talking to students at St. Peter's Junior High School in Mount Earl about mental health and ending the stigma around mental illness. Special guests include Seamus O'Regan and national spokesperson for Bell Let's Talk and Lucas Allard, Clinical Outreach Manager, Kids Help Phone who will make their presentations at 10 am.
It is estimated that 10-20% of young people in Canada are affected by a mental illness or disorder – the single most disabling group of disorders worldwide – but only 1 out of 5 youth receives the mental health services they need.
Through presentations and role-play interactions, students will learn to demystify common misconceptions about mental health, understand that many people experience mental health struggles, and learn about essential supports like Kids Help Phone.
