TFO event examines educational content in the tablet age


TORONTO – Ontario’s French-language educational network TFO is hosting an event designed to examine the impact of screens on the world of education.

Les Tablettistes, billed as a conference for everyone with an interest in the role that new mobile digital technologies are playing in Canadian children’s lives, is scheduled for December 9 in Toronto.  Its goal is to develop and promote the very first set of learning principles for tablet users in North America. 

The collaborative discussion will feature international experts on education, technology and media, including Colonel Chris Hadfield, Former commander of the International Space Station; Dr. Sylvain Moreno, Lead scientist, Centre for Brain Fitness; Maurice de Hond, Co-Founder of Steve Jobs Schools; and Thierry Karsenti, Canada research Chair on Information and Communication technology.

In Groupe Média TFO news, Laurent Guérin has been named senior director, web/TV content where he will be responsible for developing TFO’s strategy for interactive media, in-house productions, co-productions/pre-purchases and acquisitions for all distribution platforms, both digital and traditional.

Guérin is one of the pioneers of video content on the Internet. In the early 2000s, he helped to create the French web/TV outlet nouvo.com along with a number of video-on-demand services, such as Neuf and SFR in France. He then worked as a television producer before achieving distinction as a specialist in multiplatform content and social networks with the transmedia program Detective Avenue (2011), presented by the French telecommunications company Orange.
