OTTAWA – The Mobile Giving Foundation Canada (MGFC), in collaboration with the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), has announced MTS as a new partner in the foundation’s mobile giving campaign.
MTS customers will now be able to donate via text message by responding to a registered charity’s call-to-action and texting a specific keyword to an assigned five-digit number to donate $5, $10, $20 or $25, depending on the charity’s specific campaign. “The Mobile Giving Foundation Canada is very happy to have MTS as part of the mobile giving channel,” said Bernard Lord, MGFC Chair and CWTA president, in a prepared statement. “Canadians are some of the most generous donors in the world, and we couldn’t be happier to extend the reach of the MGFC to MTS’ customers.”
The amount donated by the text message will be charged to the donor’s next wireless phone bill. MTS then remits 100% of the funds collected from mobile donations to the MGFC, who in turn remits 100% of this amount directly to the registered charity.
The donation is billed as a tax-exempt transaction, and donors can obtain official receipts for tax purposes by visiting http://receipt.mobilegiving.ca/.
The Mobile Giving Foundation Canada (MGFC) was founded in 2009 to create a “mobile giving channel” that empowers non-profit organizations and donors. MGFC provides the organizational layer, operational guidelines and technical infrastructure for registered charities and donors.
