CANNES, France – Amidst the glamour of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) announced today it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) to enhance co-production opportunities between Canadian and Australian independent screen-based producers.
The agreement is a framework outlining the associations’ commitment to develop various initiatives, including ways to help each other’s members exchange information, network with each other and establish a mentoring program.
“Excellent content knows no borders, especially in the digital economy. It just has to resonate with consumers,” says Michael Hennessy, president and CEO, CMPA, in a release. “The co-production model is the path to supporting quality productions as the industry at large focuses on audiences around the globe.”
The CMPA is a national non-profit organization that represents the interests of over 350 leading screen-based media companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films and digital media content in all regions of Canada.
The SPAA represents Australian independent screen content producers on all issues affecting the business and creative aspects of screen production. Members include television, feature film, animation, documentary, television commercial and interactive media production companies, as well as services and facilities providers such as post?production, finance, distribution and legal companies.
