MONTREAL – The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) has reached a tentative agreement with the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) and the Quebec Film and Television Producers Association (APFTQ) on a new Independent Production Agreement (IPA) for Canadian screenwriters.
“We are pleased to have reached a workable agreement with our production partners that recognizes the valuable contribution of Canadian screenwriters,” said Maureen Parker, WGC Executive Director in a news release.
Details of the deal will be released to WGC members as it is presented for ratification. Once ratified by WGC members, the CMPA Board and the general assembly of the APFTQ, the new collective agreement will set the terms of engagement until December 31, 2014.
“We are very proud we were able to reach an agreement that recognizes the needs of Canadian producers, yet fairly compensates Canadian writers across the country,” says Reynolds Mastin, Chief Negotiator and Chief Legal Officer of the CMPA. “This agreement was jointly negotiated with the APFTQ and will result in a single agreement from coast to coast with respect to writing in the English language in film and television.”
