More Eastern Ontario broadband project contracts awarded to Bell Aliant

DORSET and HASTINGS COUNTY, ON – Bell Aliant has been awarded two more local access contracts as part of the Eastern Ontario regional broadband project, this time for the areas near Dorset and in northern Hastings County.

The first contract is designed to improve access to high-speed Internet to 1,800 homes and businesses in the area surrounding Dorset, in the northeast of Haliburton County.  Bell Aliant will provide a wired DSL solution including laying 16 kilometres of new fibre optic cable in this small, predominantly cottage community. The network will rely on four new Internet access points built in Dorset.

The second contract covers approximately 9,000 homes and businesses in northern Hastings County, where the company will expand broadband access using 77 kilometres of new fibre and 21 new Internet access points.

Bell Aliant will provide services ranging from 2 Mbps to up to 16 Mbps in both regions, depending on the customer location and proximity to the access point, and service will be available in fall of 2013.
