MTS Allstream pledges support to women on boards

WINNIPEG – MTS Allstream is joining Catalyst in its call to action for Canadian corporations to increase the overall proportion of board seats held by women.

The telco signed the Catalyst Accord pledging to set voluntary goals to increase the representation of women on their board over a five-year period.  Currently, three of the ten directors on the MTS Allstream board (30%) are women.

"Recognizing and advancing talented women is not only the right thing to do, it is good for business," said CEO Pierre Blouin, in a statement.  "Our long-standing and awarded success as a diverse employer allows us to leverage a wide range of talents and perspectives within our senior management team.  Continuing to have women properly represented as our corporate directors will ensure similar benefits are extended into our shareholders' boardroom."

"By stepping up and showing leadership in this public pledge to support board diversity, MTS Allstream is also following smart business practices”, added Deborah Gillis, SVP of membership and global operations at Catalyst.  “There is compelling research that gender diversity can benefit corporate decision-making, and recruiting women with the right skills helps shape stronger companies."
