VANCOUVER - Pro-Internet organization OpenMedia.ca joined groups in Canada and the U.S. on Wednesday in darkening its website in an effort to raise awareness about American legislation called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). SOPA is a U.S. bill designed to stop copyright infringement allegedly committed by foreign web sites, but the likes of Wikipedia, Google, Amazon, and Reddit maintain that it would give the American government and private corporations the ability to force Internet service providers to block links and effectively censor the Internet.
