Canadian Music Week 2012: Radio hands out the hardware


TORONTO – Toronto-area radio stations fared well at the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards which helped to draw Slacker Canadian Music Week to a close.

Station of the Year awards went to K-Rock, Kingston (small market); HTZ FM, St. Catharines (medium market); CHIN, Toronto (Multicultural); 680 News, Toronto (News/Talk/Sports); CHUM FM, Toronto (Hot AC category); 98.1 CHFI, Toronto (Mainstream AC); Boom 97.3, Toronto (Classic Gold); and 102.1 The Edge, Toronto (Rock). 

Country 105, Calgary took home station of the year honours in the Country genre, while The Beat 94.5, Vancouver won for CHR.

On-Air Talent of the Year went to Garner Andrews of Edmonton’s SONIC 102.9, while that station’s Al Ford was also named Program Director of the Year (major market).  Music Director of the Year (major market) went to Lisa Grossi, at CHUM FM, Toronto.  Click here for a complete list of 2012 Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards winners.

Over at the 2012 Crystals Awards, Canada's only award show dedicated exclusively to excellence in radio creative, a spot for Sears Optical called "Auction" was named ‘Best in Show’, taking home the platinum award and a $10,000 grand prize presented by the Broadcast Executives Society.  Created by lg2, this submission was also awarded the 'Innovation in Radio Award'.
