MONTREAL and VANCOUVER – The resurgence in the Canadian economy has boded well for the telco industry in Canada.
Videotron said that it created 827 new jobs in 2010, driven by its entry into the mobile market, which was 230 jobs more than the hiring targets it announced in January 2010. This boosted its workforce to more than 6,000, the company said, and it still has a number of openings available in engineering, network operations and management, installation, sales, marketing, IT and customer service.
“Videotron operates in a leading-edge industry and our people work in a heady swirl of technology, entertainment and product/service development efforts,” said president and CEO, Robert Dépatie, in a statement. “The challenges associated with our move into mobile services in 2010 are a good example of our dynamic working environment. Videotron is also a growing company that offers a broad range of career opportunities in all parts of Québec. Our employees truly are on the front lines of the tech revolution.”
Telus has pledged to invest $1.5 million to further expand its Prince George call centre and create 100 new local jobs in the next six months, primarily to support the growth of its Optik TV service. Upon completion of the expansion this year, Telus said that it will employ about 266 contact centre team members in Prince George, including the 24 hired in 2010 to support the growth of Optik TV. The company currently has a total of 292 team members in Prince George, which will grow to about 392 once the new call centre is fully staffed.
"Telus’ new Prince George team members will join our existing team supporting the continued expansion of Optik TV services across B.C. and Alberta," said Chris Jensen, general manager for northern B.C., in a statement. "We are looking forward to getting to work on the renovations and hiring so our new colleagues can get trained and start serving customers ordering Telus’ Optik TV."
