TORONTO and PALO ALTO, CA – Mobilicity is offering their customers another way to stay connected to their Facebook accounts with the launch of a new mobile application for Java-powered feature phones.
The new Facebook application is optimized to use as little data as possible, making it cheaper than similar applications or mobile sites to use, the wireless upstart said Wednesday. It also offers several new features such as the ability to view photos from a users’ mobile phone, the option to synchronize local address book contacts with Facebook friends, and Facebook login to third party services within the application, such as news, sports, games, and weather.
Mobilicity is offering a three month trial for customers to download and use the application without incurring any data charges.
“We are thrilled that Mobilicity is launching the new Facebook application in Canada,” said VP of marketing, Sara Moore, in the announcement. “We are committed to making wireless communications more affordable for Canadians and are proud to work with Facebook and enable all our customers to connect with their Facebook friends on Mobilicity’s 3.5G network.”
The app is a collaboration between Facebook and Snaptu, whose platform brings web services to millions of people around the world on more than 2,500 different types of mobile devices via the Snaptu app.
“We are always looking to work with innovative operators on ways to enable people to easily access Facebook wherever they are,” said Henri Moissinac, Facebook’s head of mobile business. “Through our collaboration with Mobilicity, we’re thrilled to offer yet another way for people to stay connected with their friends and family through Facebook and bring a high quality and high speed mobile application experience to feature phones in an affordable way.”
