OTTAWA – Telus will invest $4.5 million in Ottawa this year to offer faster wireless and wireline services to consumers, businesses and healthcare providers.

“This year Telus will continue to bring Ottawa faster wireless broadband services as we introduce HSPA+ Dual Cell, one of the most advanced wireless technologies in the world”, said Terry Nemeth, vice-president of sales, public sector for Ontario and Atlantic, in the announcement. “Telus is also committed to working with all levels of government in Ontario to advance the provision of life-changing healthcare and education services over our networks.”

Telus said that it supports the rollout of electronic health records to local health care institutions and communities across Canada, including Ottawa, moving patient information on-line so it can be shared across wireless devices and other local healthcare institutions. Focussed investments support the expansion of secured network services for major public and private sector customers including Secure IP Anywhere, which expands the private corporate network outside of the office to enable a secure and mobile workforce.

The telco also pledged to bring its 4G wireless network to more rural communities and highway corridors in the province, as well as strengthen its coverage in urban centres.  In separate announcements, Telus pledged to spend $1.2 million in Windsor, $700,000 in Kitchener-Waterloo and $1.5 million in London this year on advanced broadband services.
