TORONTO – Wendy Freeman will be the new president of CTV News, replacing Robert Hurst who announced plans to step down earlier this month.
Freeman is a 17-year veteran of the network, most recently as VP and executive producer of CTV National News. Prior to that, she held a variety of senior management positions within CTV News, and also worked at New York-based CW11 WPIX Television network and Toronto’s Citytv.
“Wendy has been understudying this role for years,” said CEO Ivan Fecan, in the announcement. “She will lead us into the next generation of news.”
Freeman (right) will assume the role effective January 3, 2010. Hurst will stay on until that time, allowing for a seamless transition.

"I live and breathe news, so this position is a dream come true,” said Freeman. “I look forward to working with Canada’s best news team to explore new opportunities that will bring us even further into the digital age. This is an exciting time for CTV News."
