Murphy named new president of Corus TV


TORONTO – After losing Paul Roberston to Shaw earlier in the day, Corus Entertainment named Doug Murphy to the role of president of Corus Television.

Murphy joined Corus in December 2002 and was most recently EVP and GM of Corus Kids and president of Nelvana.  In that role, he was responsible for overseeing Corus’ global kids business, including the specialty networks Treehouse, YTV and Nickelodeon (Canada), as well as Nelvana, Kids Can Press, KidsCo and qubo. Prior to this position, Murphy was president of Nelvana Enterprises.

He assumes his new role immediately and will report to Corus Entertainment president and CEO John Cassaday.

Doug’s predecessor, Paul Robertson, assembled a stellar team and a powerhouse portfolio of brands which will grow and prosper under Doug’s leadership."

The Corus Television portfolio includes the kids services YTV, Treehouse, Nickelodeon (Canada), Teletoon (50%) and Teletoon Retro (50%); the women’s services W Network, Cosmopolitan TV, VIVA and W Movies; CMT (Canada), Sundance Channel (Canada), Dusk and Telelatino; Movie Central, western Canada’s pay TV service (including HBO Canada) and Encore Avenue; Nelvana and Nelvana Enterprises; Kids Can Press; three local over-the-air television stations; and Corus Custom Networks advertising services for television.
