THUNDER BAY, ON – Tbaytel is rebranding its wireless network as 4G HSPA+ in keeping with the International Telecommunication Union’s reclassification.
The ITU, which defines network classifications within the telecommunications industry, last December expanded its definition of a 4G wireless mobile network to now include HSPA+ networks, such as Tbaytel’s current 3G HSPA+ network.
“Other carriers within the mobility industry with networks similar to Tbaytel have chosen to refer to their respective networks as 4G,” explained Tbaytel president and CEO Don Campbell, in a statement on Friday. “In order for consumers to accurately compare Tbaytel’s network to those of other carriers, it is important for Tbaytel to follow suit and rename its network accordingly.”
