Manitoba HSPA + network to launch March 31

TORONTO and WINNIPEG – Rogers and MTS Allstream have confirmed that their joint HSPA + wireless voice and data network in Manitoba will launch on March 31st.

MTS said that it is investing more than $100 million in the new network to provide its urban and rural customers in the province with faster download speeds, access to a new lineup of smart phones and handsets, and extensive international roaming on compatible GSM and HSPA networks.

"All of us at MTS are incredibly excited about bringing this next generation of wireless service to our Manitoba customers, which will give them faster data speeds as well as access to the best available national and international roaming," said president Kelvin Shepherd, in the announcement. "We offer Manitoba residents the broadest and most flexible bundling capabilities, the best dealer distribution network and superior customer service – all under the MTS brand that they have come to know and trust."

MTS also pledged to roll out new bundled service offerings shortly.

Rogers, which already offers service in Winnipeg and southern Manitoba, is expanding into the province’s northern communities like Thompson, The Pas, and Flin Flon while, at the same time, upgrading its existing footprint to high speed 3G+/HSPA+.

"We’ve listened to Manitobans and know they want a reliable experience and more choice”, said Rogers GM for Manitoba, Laura Kwiatkowski. “Now the countdown is on for the fastest mobile speeds available in Manitoba. We’re pleased to offer a new network to new customers that switch to Rogers and existing customers that will enable them to connect to what matters to them, anywhere within our new coverage area, anytime, on any device."
