Canadian broadcasters stand up to cancer with primetime special

TORONTO – Citytv, CTV and Global Television will donate one hour of commercial-free primetime to simulcast a fundraising special to raise funds for innovative cancer research.

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) will air September 10 at 8pm ET/PT, 7pm CT on the three networks, as well as streamed live on-line at Citytv.com, CTV.ca, and GlobalTV.com.

Hosted by Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, and Brian Williams, the event will feature numerous well-known cancer survivors such as Christina Applegate, Lance Armstrong, Fran Drescher and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; celebrities such as George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Denzel Washington; plus performances by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Neil Diamond, The Edge and Leona Lewis, and many others.

One-hundred percent of all donations received from the public will go directly to cancer research. Canadian viewers will be able to donate to Stand Up to Cancer through the toll free number 888.90.STAND (8263). The 2008 telecast helped to raise over $100 million.
