TORONTO – A multi-screen video streaming solution from SeaChange International was named as the ‘technology most likely to succeed’ on Tuesday following the annual Technology Challenge at the SCTE Canadian Summit in Toronto.
The SeaChange solution was one of five products and solutions demonstrated at the Technology Challenge, and all five were designed to expand the capabilities of cable network architectures to reach new platforms and deliver new services. The winner was selected by SCTE Canadian Summit attendees using mobile text messaging.
SeaChange showed how VOD can be expanded to serve video to multiple screens. Its demonstration featured on-demand and linear streaming to multiple screens – including the smart phone, PC, iPad and set-top – and how operators can plan for multi-screen services while illustrating the benefits of adding multi-screen delivery to existing platforms.
“SeaChange offers a very innovative and compelling solution that can leverage existing platforms to enable rapid deployment of enhanced video services,” said Technology Challenge co-chair Steve Irvine, who is also VP of engineering, operations and wireless for EastLink Cable Systems. “SeaChange allows cable operators to expand existing linear TV and VOD services for a multi-screen experience that cannot be matched by over-the-top providers.”
The SCTE Canadian Summit 2011 continues on Wednesday.
