TORONTO – Global Television is hoping that another generation of TV viewers will embrace the phrase "Book ’em Danno!"
Network execs described the modern day version of the iconic hit Hawaii Five-O as the “most buzz-worthy series of the year” while unveiling its 2010-2011 prime time schedule on Thursday afternoon.
Other new series include the drama Lonestar, set against the backdrop of big Texas oil; Outsourced, a comedy following an American who is transferred to supervise a novelty company’s new call centre in India; Love Bites featuring three loosely connected stories of love, sex, marriage and dating each week; the legal drama Outlaw; and a new original Canadian drama series called Shattered which stars Callum Keith Rennie.
"Global is heading into the new season with our most powerful schedule in years," said Barbara Williams, CanWest’s EVP of content, in a statement. "With 16 primetime returning series – including the No.1 program on television (Survivor) and the No.1 new hit of the year (Glee) – plus the fall’s most talked-about new shows, Global is Canada’s home of the new hits."
Returning shows include House, Glee, NCIS: LA, The Good Wife, Survivor, NCIS, Lie To Me, Bones, The Office, 90210, The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy, American Dad, Brothers & Sisters, 16:9 and The Celebrity Apprentice.
Every Global series (with the exception of The Simpsons – d’oh!) will be available for streaming following its on-air broadcast.
Over on the specialty network side, the fall schedules include the new series American Pickers on History Television; the spy series Burn Notice on Showcase; and 16 brand new lifestyle programs across Food Network Canada, HGTV, DIY Network Canada and Slice.
Looking ahead to 2011, viewers can expect Canadian adaptations of international hits Top Chef and Wipeout on Food Network Canada and TVtropolis, respectively, as well as a co-production of The Kennedy’s, chronicling the legendary family, on History Television.
