Bell has been LTE-testing, too

TORONTO – Bell Canada has been every bit as active on the LTE front as any wireless carrier, the company said today.

Responding to a few reports yesterday which touted LTE testing by Rogers and Barrett Xplore, a Bell spokesperson told Cartt.ca this afternoon that the company has been testing the technology all summer long.

“Trials are well under way in Hamilton and Montreal,” she said. “We made our first data call this summer.”

LTE (long term evolution) is considered “4G” wireless technology. It will enable features like fast HD video streaming, gaming, communications, transactions and other connected experiences through mobile Internet. It is supposed to bring wired broadband speeds and performance to wireless.

LTE allows significantly more data to pass through a network at speeds of up to 150 Mbps and may become the de-facto network technology in a few years.

In North America, only Sprint offers LTE connectivity, on just two handsets.

Never the less, “we don’t expect our competitors to launch before us and they are not ahead of us in testing,” added the Bell spokesperson.
