Ericsson moving to new, bigger facility in Ottawa

OTTAWA – Ericsson is relocating its Ottawa-based labs to a new, bigger facility that will house the company’s more than 900 employees.

The new facility will allow for more efficient use of space and give Ericsson the capacity to extend its over-the-air testing and demonstration capabilities. It is also well served by public transit and has a number of amenities in the immediate area, Tuesday’s announcement detailed. The move is expected to begin next summer and be completed before the end of 2012.

"Ericsson is pleased to move our Ottawa-based employees to a state-of-the art facility providing leading-edge R&D for global telecom service providers," said Ericsson Canada president and CEO, Mark Henderson, in the announcement. "We look forward to remaining in the Ottawa area, one of North America’s leading R&D hubs."

Ericsson’s new facility will have approximately 200,000 square feet of operational space, with the potential to expand an additional 40,000 square feet. Its Ottawa lab is known for its LTE research and focus on CDMA Radio Access development and support, as well as advanced wireless research activities.
